Medical  eye   exams

At Maple Glen Eyecare, we understand that your eyes are vital to your daily life. Whether it's sudden pain, discomfort, or unexpected changes in your vision, we know that eye problems can be stressful. If you're experiencing any eye issues, don’t wait. Contact us for a medical eye exam as soon as possible. We specialize in diagnosing and treating a wide range of eye conditions that can affect your vision and overall eye health.

common  issues  that  require  medical  attention:

There are several eye conditions that may cause pain, discomfort, or sudden changes in vision. If you're experiencing any of the following symptoms, it's important to seek medical care promptly:
  • Eye Pain: If you have sharp, throbbing, or constant pain in your eye, it could be a sign of infection, inflammation, or a more serious condition like a corneal ulcer or glaucoma.
  • Sudden Vision Changes: If you experience sudden blurry vision, quickening loss of vision, or distorted sight, it could be caused by several conditions, including retinal issues, a detached retina, or a sudden increase in eye pressure. **Please note, if you have not been seen for an annual exam in a while, your vision can get blurrier over time. Medical issues arise when vision goes from normal to blurry/lost instantly.
  • Redness or Swelling: Bloodshot eyes or swelling around the eyelids can indicate an eye infection, allergic reaction, or conditions like conjunctivitis (pink eye).
  • Floaters or Flashes of Light: Seeing small specks (floaters) or flashes of light in your vision could indicate a retinal tear or detachment. It’s important to get checked immediately to prevent permanent damage.
  • Eye Discharge: Unusual discharge, crusting, or sticky eyes are often signs of an infection, such as conjunctivitis or blepharitis.
  • Light Sensitivity: Sensitivity to light (photophobia) can be a sign of inflammation in the eye, such as uveitis or a corneal infection.
  • Foreign Object in the Eye: If something is stuck in your eye and you can’t remove it yourself, we can help with safe, effective removal. This is very important to assess immediately, as foreign bodies in the eye can cause scratches and further issues.
  • Dry Eyes: Chronic dryness, burning, or a feeling of grittiness in your eyes could be a sign of dry eye syndrome, which can lead to discomfort or vision problems if left untreated.

what  to  expect  during  your  visit:

When you come in for an urgent medical eye exam, we prioritize both your comfort and a thorough evaluation. Here’s what will typically happen during your visit:
  1. Detailed Symptom Discussion: We’ll start by discussing your symptoms, the onset of your eye issue, and any changes in your vision. This helps us understand the potential cause and urgency of the situation.
  2. Eye Health History: We’ll review your medical history, including any previous eye conditions, surgeries, or health issues like diabetes, hypertension, or autoimmune diseases that could affect your eyes.
  3. Visual Acuity Test: We’ll test your vision to determine if there are any immediate changes in how you see.
  4. Slit Lamp Examination: This allows us to examine the front structures of your eyes, such as the cornea, iris, and eyelids, to check for signs of infection, injury, or inflammation.
  5. Pressure Test (Tonometry): We may check the pressure inside your eyes to screen for conditions like glaucoma or to assess other abnormalities.
  6. Dilated Eye Exam: If necessary, we may dilate your pupils with eye drops to get a clearer view of the retina, optic nerve, and other internal structures to identify conditions like retinal tears or macular degeneration.
  7. Additional Testing: Depending on the issue, we might perform more specialized tests, such as a corneal stain, OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography), or a visual field test.

treatment  and  care  options:

Based on the results of your exam, we’ll discuss a treatment plan that’s tailored to your specific condition. Our goal is to treat the problem as quickly and effectively as possible to minimize discomfort and preserve your vision. Treatment may include:
  • Medications: Prescription eye drops or oral medications for infections, inflammation, or pain relief.
  • Surgical Interventions: For more serious conditions like a detached retina or severe injury, surgery recommendation may be necessary.
  • Eye Protection: We may recommend wearing eye shields, special contacts, or eye patches to protect your eyes during recovery.
  • Lifestyle Modifications: If your issue is related to dry eyes, allergies, or environmental factors, we’ll give you advice on managing the symptoms and preventing future flare-ups.
In some cases, we might refer you to a specialist or work with other medical professionals to provide the best care possible. We always work with the greatest Doctors and specialists to keep your health as everyone's top priority.
